Only three countries on the planet do not use the 200-year old Metric system: Liberia, Myanmar, and…you guessed it: The United States.
Why doesn’t the US use the Metric system?
In 1975, the US passed the Metric Conversion Act, intending to finally adopt the base-10 Metric system and abandon the previous system based on seeds and bodyparts. Schools and government started an education campaign , teaching the system and preparing for the switch.
But in true US political tradition, President Ronald Reagan disbanded the Metric Board in 1982 and de-funded it.
Since then, no serious attempt has been made to switch to metric.
